FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ZOMBIE PROGRESS
Renegade Motion Pictures Offers Fans a Voice in Zombie Movie.
Toronto, ON, and Regina, SK, March 22, 2007 – In a move to broaden the scope of the interactive involvement with fans of the book Autumn , Renegade Motion Pictures is now allowing for feedback in the form of a survey where the fans can actually have a voice in the second draft of the screenplay.
This survey can be found on The Making of Autumn blog (www.autumnthemovie.blogspot.com) where one can also see behind-the-scenes stories and videos throughout the process of the Autumn production. The blog will monitor Renegade's experiments in the relationship between the committed Autumn book fans and their contribution to the success of the subsequent film production. The experiments, which include fan investment packages, are designed to explore how this relationship could create a regenerated model for successful indie production worldwide. Quote from the blog, “The notion of feedback from spectators is not new to film production but it is normally done during preview screenings of a largely completed film. With Autumn we have afforded the reader the respect to take his or her feelings into account at script level.”
AUTUMN , by David Moody (http://www.djmoody.co.uk ), is the first in a series of novels about a post-apocalyptic world following a sudden viral epidemic. The series has developed a cult following on the internet and Renegade wants to involve the already established and future fans. This idea goes more into a sense of creative solidarity than a sense of significant financial ownership. The “differences” in the nature of the Autumn zombies and the intense human conditions explored in the story is what compels many fans to be so committed to the book.
Steven Rumbelow, the director has great enthusiasm for this process. “This whole experiment, which started with the fan investment packages is enormously exciting. I was looking at a number of traditional models in different art forms where the fans and the artists create a mutually beneficial partnership. What we're trying with Autumn is something that, although not completely new, does suggest a prototype for a new way of indie film production. One that establishes a direct link between the filmmaker and a small but very committed public who stays with the film from development to distribution. This is something that can provide even greater independence to the filmmaker. It's a Renegade thing to do things differently and it's always an exciting and positive thing to find new potential avenues of maintaining independence in our creative production processes. Autumn could so easily end up sanitized and trivialized if produced under a Hollywood style formula. That will not be happening with this production, thanks already, in part, to the solidarity which is forming between Renegade, the author and the fans.”
Not only can you now own part of the movie in the form of $20 CAD shares, but you can also have a say in how the book is adapted to the screen. The Making of Autumn blog ( www.autumnthemovie.blogspot.com ).
